Idols of the Heart

In church recently my pastor has been preaching on a series called, Soul Detox. It has been an excellent series, although I think I say that about all his teachings. God has gifted my pastor to speak straight into the hearts of His children. No doubt, every Sunday, I get something from his teachings. Why for the life of me, I thought I wouldn't get anything out of the teaching on Soul Detox, week #4, titled, "The Seduced Soul"... I truly don't know. It was going to be on idols.

"Idols, " I thought to myself, "God has been working on me on this one for way to long, I think I know what idols are in my life and I am working with God to tear them down."

Now, don't get me wrong. I know I am not perfect by any means. But, I do know that God has brought me along way with the idols in my life. Five to ten years ago, no question, I could have started naming off a list of idols in my life (money, career, ministry life, family, my hometown, my hubby, friends, clothes, weight loss, oh, and I could just keep going). But, praise God, through the work of the Holy Spirit, God has shown them each to me and slowly and painfully, He is tearing them down. Most of these idols came down just in the past two years. Having two miscarriages in one year has caused me to have a different perspective about most of the things and people in my life. I am thankful.

Oh, but God never stops working in us...

AMEN! God has a way of teaching us what is hindering our walk with Him, yet He also empowers us to follow Him.
